The celebrated fashion designer from France Jean-Paul Gaultier announced his retirement yesterday after serving the industry for 50 years.
The retirement has sent shock waves across the entire fashion fraternity. The next Paris haute Couture show is being touted as his last show.
He announced this in a video message that read “This show celebrating 50 years of my career will also be my last. But rest assured Haute Couture will continue with a new concept.”
Among his notable feats were making superstar Madonna wear conical bra and inventing the ‘man skirt’ back in 1985, which created history.
He was also instrumental in bringing body diversity onto the runway.
Besides, his party-like shows were graced by celebrated models such as American singer Beth Ditto and drag queen Conchita Wurst.
Jean-Paul Gaultier was personal assistant to French fashion magnate Pierre Cardin at a young age of 18, before attaining fame in 1980s.
