Amazon India is on a lookout to expand its workforce in the country. The e-commerce giant will employ over 2,000 people in technology and non-technology departments across the country.
It is pertinent to mention, earlier this year, Amazon let go off a section of its workforce in line with its restructuring programme which was carried out globally. However, now the leading e-retailer is looking for employees to fill in roles in Amazon.com, Amazon.in, Amazon Web Services and its Device division.
Markedly, India stands out as the second biggest workforce centre for Amazon, as the online retailer is home to more than 50,000 employees in the country, with America being the biggest workforce centre. The numbers are expected to boost in the time to come, as the company is committed to invest heavily in India, eyeing to recruit people from various regions and different backgrounds.
Deepti Verma, HR Director, Amazon India was quoted as saying, “We have more than 2,000 job openings out of which, 50 per cent are for tech and 50 per cent are for non-tech roles and this number is growing as we speak.”
She further added that previously Amazon was focussed on gender equality but now, it has shifted its focus on the disabled, people from different regions, diverse backgrounds and ethnicity from around the country.
