In recent times, the menswear market has grown considerably and it is expected that in the future, revenues from the menswear sector could even outpace womenswear.
Owing to a recent spike in interest and increased investments toward menswear products and the success enjoyed by mixed gender presentations, many designers, brands and online retailers are taking this market a lot more seriously.
The latest to follow suit is curated online giant Moda Operandi which has unveiled a new section within its platform called ‘Moda Operandi Man’.
The section would cater to men only and serve as a male-focussed online destination where men can pre-order pieces from various designers directly from the runway.
The exclusive section will initially launch with 50 brands and designers including the likes of top luxury players such as Prada, Maison Margiela, Givenchy, Ralph Lauren, Thom Browne, Off-White, Balmain, Lanvin and Burberry. Markedly, the curated list of brands were selected based on their history, relevance, aesthetic and quality as well as how they would complement the site’s mainstream women’s business.
“We saw strong interest in the menswear category over that last two holiday seasons, which led us to the decision to introduce menswear as a standalone business. Our focus is to offer him exactly what he wants through a curated selection of products that fit his lifestyle,” Deborah Nicodemus, CEO of Moda Operandi, said in a statement.
The retailer predicts that its existing female consumer base will begin shopping for the men in their lives on the online platform, essentially serving as brand ambassadors to further introduce the concept to men. The company also expects luxury-driven men to adopt the site by discovering it on their own through various social media and influencer led programmes.
To make the move more relevant, the site has been redesigned keeping in mind the end-customer by offering a dual-gender shopping experience. The site now boasts of mixed gender with trunk shows, curated editorial stories, exclusive capsule collection and core brands that are made easily navigable from the landing page itself.
Launched seven years ago, Moda Operandi started off as an exclusive site dedicated to womenswear that offered its consumers the chance to pre-order the next season’s styles as soon as they appeared on the runway. The site now features in-season products as well as recommendations from personal stylists.
The initial focus of Moda Men will be on the Milan and Paris Men’s Fashion Weeks, scheduled to take place late this month.
