US-based fast-fashion retailer Forever 21 has collaborated with a visual search engine, Donde Search to offer its shoppers a never before seen shopping experience. With this introduction, customers will be free from typing fashion terms to search for their favourite apparel while shopping online. The visual search and navigation technology is going to aid the shopper to look for dresses, pants, shorts, jeans and tops, and will portray as a “Discover Your Style” element on the Forever 21 web pages and mobile websites.
In an announcement to mark out the partnership, the apparel retailer said that the customers will be able to search merchandise by clicking icons that symbolises the kind of things they want in an attire, from the size and fitting of a skirt to the neckline and colour of a shirt.
Alex Ok, President, Forever 21 cited that this (visual search) technology integrates the comfort of e-shopping and the rich discovery experience of traditional retail. “Enabling our customers to pick out apparel as they think about it; using visuals, not words,” Alex added.
Notably, this feature was launched in May and the tests showed a rapid rise in Forever 21’s sales, 20 per cent in its average purchase value for the test categories. This success, in the beginning, propelled the retailer to set up this service on a large scale on its e-commerce marketplace.
Apart from eliminating the language barrier for retailers, Donde Search technology also helps the retailers with product assortment issues and makes the shopping easier, as it claims, the user will leave a website in just three-clicks if he does not find the product they are looking for.
