With the use of modern technology, “a single captured performance can be transformed into an entire collection, enabling brands to tell rich stories while reducing the need for physical samples and the associated costs,” according to the Fashion Innovation Agency (FIA), which is based at the London College of Fashion, UAL.
According to reports, it facilitates everything from consumer-facing virtual try-ons to campaign ideation.
The new 3D volumetric capture service, which is the first of its type for digital-first fashion designers and companies, provides the basis for those claims.
This cutting-edge creative technology applies virtual clothing with realistic dynamics and textures to recorded human performances using a technique called digital reskinning that was created by the FIA. This produces incredibly lifelike fashion content that flows organically and expressively, opening up countless possibilities for virtual runways and digital advertising.
With the use of AI mesh stabilisation and full-body motion capture in high-resolution 3D, it creates digital doubles that are ready for styling and reimagining.
“Up until now, there hasn’t been a clear or consistent pipeline for designers to access this level of digital reskinning,” stated Matthew Drinkwater, chairman of the FIA. “What we’ve constructed alters that. The best 3D volumetric capture quality currently on the market has been attained by us; it is incredibly realistic and prepared for practical application. Designers and brands can now use this technology in a scalable and user-friendly manner for the first time.”
