One of the basic and the ongoing problem facing the apparel industry is the diminishing skills among workers and few training options to revive it. But soon this is going to change after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his pet project Skill India Campaign recently, both for the public and private sector, aiming at training over 40 crore people in India in different skills by the year 2022. Currently, with 31 skill councils for each sector, Apparel-Made-ups-Furnishings Sector Skill Council (AMH SSC) is also looking towards a skilled workforce through this new initiative. Dr A. Sakthivel, Chairman, AMH SSC, exclusively shares the mission and vision of the Council with Apparel Online. The magazine also gives an in-depth coverage to the recently concluded Yarnex Exhibition 2015 at Tirupur. With about 80 participants of fabric and accessories showcasing their latest offerings, including yarn, grey and ready-to-cut fabric in various blends, the exhibitors were positive about the market, focusing more on sustainable aspect and product development. Besides the above, our regular columns of Mind Tree, H2F, Fashion Trends, Industry Wire, Resource Centre, Export Statistics, etc. make the issue worth reading.
