Leather has been doing more than good for the current seasons, and looks promising enough for the seasons ahead in the form of the new emerging trend of Ox-Blood leather, i.e. the colour of oxygenated blood. Designers are going all the way and trying all sorts of things to innovate the trend from experimenting with techniques, trims, colour to silhouette, and actualizing in the form of biker jackets, trenches, dresses, peplum tops and skirts and pants.
On the runways, this newfound obsession for deep dark Ox-Blood hue was very well embraced by Burberry, Just Cavalli, 10 Crosby Derek Lam and Narciso Rodriguez in the form of monochromes and simple surfaces with a little padding or contrasted with printed jackets and shoes – mostly animal prints. Matt finishes and patent leather with simple trims and clean shapes also work well for the trend. Also, retailers like ASOS, H&M, nordstrom.com and barneys.com have already incorporated the refined and luxe looking style in different forms and variants in their collection.
