As we look ahead to the next Fall/Winter season, denim is set to take centre stage yet again in the menswear landscape. The evolution of denim silhouettes continues to move away from the long-dominant skinny leg style, making way for a resurgence of straight, wide and baggy fits. This shift reflects a broader embrace of relaxed and comfort-driven styles that redefine contemporary menswear.
A key highlight this season is the extensive variety of dyes and washes that offer a dynamic range from deep indigo rinses to faded blacks and greys. This versatility allows for both polished and lived-in aesthetics, catering to diverse style preferences.
The recently concluded runways saw designers incorporating statement-making details to elevate denim pieces beyond their utilitarian roots. Faux fur collars and linings add a touch of luxury and warmth, while flap pockets and patchwork details bring a sense of craftsmanship and personalisation coupled with a contemporary appeal.
Amongst the standout trends of the season, denim-on-denim styling takes the lead. Dolce & Gabbana introduced a voluminous jacket in soft-washed blue denim, lined with faux fur and paired with relaxed-fit jeans, while Hed Mayner showcased an oversized zip-up bomber jacket in ‘dirty’ washed denim, also featuring a plush faux fur collar and lining, complemented by
baggy jeans with a distinctive centre seam. Kenzo reimagined the trend with a kimono-style jacket boasting three-quarter sleeves, layered over a matching shirt and baggy jeans with a broad cuff, all in a medium blue soft wash. Egonlab took a bold approach with a broad-shouldered denim jacket featuring wide sleeves, an oversized collar and intricate details such as rounded stitching, belted sleeves and flap pockets. Additionally, stone-washed jeans featured pieced-in overlays, enhancing the rugged aesthetic.
Setchu delivered a refined take on denim tailoring with a collarless jacket in stone-washed grey denim, distinguished by ‘origami’-inspired folds at the waist. The ensemble was completed with matching jeans featuring a centre seam and ankle tabs, adding a structured, avant-garde appeal.
