Designer Aprajita Toor has launched her latest collection under the name Project Mehbooba, a passion project two years in the making. The collection itself can best be described as a cultural tapestry of love, drama and craft – this isn’t just a bag line, it is Aprajita’s creative expression, brought to life in a limited-edition series of one-of-a-kind collectible pieces.
The range includes tiny satchels to statement-making ‘body bags’ that are directly inspired by the overlapping cultures across India and beyond, weaving together the artistic legacies of Afghanistan, Turkey, Kutch, Sindh and the Balkans.

Every bag carries a story, stitched with centuries of migration, memory and shared traditions.
The main USP of this collection lies in its cultural tapestry. Each piece is crafted from exquisite embroideries collected over the years, ranging from immaculate fabric patches hand-sourced during Aprajita’s travels, stitched together with the same intimacy as her childhood summers spent at her Nani’s home.
“Some people doodle to clear their minds,” she explained. “I stitch together fragments of fabric from around the world. This is my ode to the odd,” Aparajita said.
Each piece is handmade with slow, intentional craftsmanship, never machine-made. The collection is reminiscent of the ’90s Bollywood era – dramatic, colourful and larger-than-life, designed for personalities bold enough to carry them.
Project Mehbooba will be available exclusively at the Aprajita Toor Studio in Mumbai, with plans to expand into jewellery and apparel collections every six months. While Aprajita’s footwear line continues to drive her retail business, Project Mehbooba exudes pure creative joy through museum-worthy pieces made for those who crave the extraordinary.
