Leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have held talks with Mongolia’s non-resident Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ganbold Dambajav, to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, investment and broader economic cooperation.
The meeting, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, focused on strengthening collaboration in value-added manufacturing, apparel, textiles and leather, according to a BGMEA press release. The ambassador was accompanied by Nasrin Fatema Awal, Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in Mongolia.
The BGMEA delegation was led by Acting President Selim Rahman and included directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Nafis-ud-Doula, Sumaiya Islam, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Asef Kamal Pasha, Rumana Rashid and Samiha Azim.
Rahman said the engagement was timely and significant as BGMEA steps up efforts to diversify export destinations and build strategic partnerships beyond traditional markets. He highlighted the association’s focus on deepening ties with emerging economies such as Mongolia.
Ambassador Dambajav outlined Mongolia’s growing interest in expanding exports of leather goods and cashmere-based apparel, and said Bangladesh’s global experience in garment manufacturing positioned it as a competitive partner for value addition, joint processing and textile production.
He also encouraged Bangladeshi businesses to explore direct investment opportunities in Mongolia, particularly in logistics, value-added industries and the mining sector. The ambassador noted that Mongolia’s Economic Partnership Agreements with the European Union, Japan and several other economies offer tariff advantages, potentially opening new markets for Bangladeshi investors.
In addition, he pointed to Mongolia’s rising demand for skilled workers in sectors such as mining, construction, road and highway development, railways and agriculture, suggesting that enhanced labour cooperation could help meet these needs.
Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening institutional links between BGMEA and the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce to facilitate greater trade and investment flows.
As a follow-up, a virtual meeting between BGMEA and the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for March 2026. A Mongolian trade delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh in April 2026, followed by a BGMEA trade mission to Mongolia in June or July 2026.
