
Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) exports declined by 2.43% year-on-year to US $ 22.98 billion during the July–January period of fiscal year 2025–26, according to the latest country-wise export data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The European Union (EU) remained Bangladesh’s largest export destination for RMG, accounting for 49.35% of total shipments in the category. Export earnings from the EU stood at US $ 11.34 billion, reflecting a 3.98% year-on-year decline. Former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel said the EU continued to dominate as the primary market, despite the contraction in overall export value.
The United States retained its position as the second-largest destination for Bangladeshi apparel. RMG exports to the US totalled US $ 4.47 billion during the July–January period, representing 19.46% of total RMG exports and registering a marginal year-on-year decline of 0.03%.
According to EPB data, Bangladesh’s total RMG exports to the United States for the 12-month period from February 2025 to January 2026 reached US $ 7,544.34 million. During the same timeframe, total national RMG exports stood at US $ 38,775.15 million, with the US market accounting for 19.46% of the overall figure.
Among other major destinations, exports to Canada and the United Kingdom recorded positive growth. Shipments to Canada amounted to US $ 784.17 million, accounting for a 3.41% share of total RMG exports and posting year-on-year growth of 4.42%. Exports to the United Kingdom reached US $ 2.62 billion, representing an 11.38% share and recording growth of 2.55%.
Exports to non-traditional markets totalled US $ 3.77 billion, accounting for 16.40% of overall RMG exports, although these markets registered a 4.99% year-on-year decline.
In terms of product categories, knitwear exports fell by 3.13% during the period, while woven garment exports declined by 1.60%, reflecting subdued demand across key global markets.
