Uttar Pradesh is expected to make a substantial contribution to the Union Government’s goal of reaching textile exports valued at US $ 103 billion by 2030, according to an official spokesperson. According to the official, UP will be instrumental in this accomplishment if it occurs because of its rich textile history and highly qualified workforce.
With special reference to Kanpur, the spokesperson emphasised Uttar Pradesh’s rich history of textile production. The official mentioned Lucknow’s globally famous chikankari embroidery and Gautam Buddha Nagar’s rise as a hub for ready-made clothing.
The State Government has started a number of programs to increase textile production and improve the abilities of artisans because it recognises the potential of these ancient businesses. According to the spokesperson, numerous districts are now part of the ODOP program, which promotes their own textile crafts.
Flatted factories have been established in Gorakhpur and other districts, they said, outlining Government measures. Through the ODOP program, the Government hopes to open Common Facility Centres in GB Nagar, Lucknow, Mirzapur, and Bhadohi by 2025.
One of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority’s (YEIDA) key initiatives was the establishment of a 118-acre apparel park in Sector 29. Likewise, a garment park and 80 flatted factory units were developed by the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA).
At least five clothing and garmenting parks are being planned in Gautam Buddha Nagar, along Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority-developed (UPEIDA) motorways, and within 50 km of Jewar Airport.
There are also ambitions to establish the Purvanchal region as a centre for the ready-made clothing industry. After terracotta, ready-made clothing has been included in Gorakhpur’s ODOP program.
Additionally, a flatted factory complex housing textile units has been established in the GIDA area. Additionally, Agra is developing an Integrated Textile and Apparel Industrial Park. The Central Government has also announced a Cotton Mission in the general budget to develop this sector. Additionally, US $ 6 million has been committed for the National Cotton Technology Mission.
