The Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, S. Savitha, announced that nine companies have shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh’s textiles sector. The announcement followed a meeting held at the State Secretariat in Velagapudi, where the minister met representatives from the interested firms, including five who joined via video conference.
According to the minister, the companies are exploring opportunities to establish units for mattress manufacturing, apparel production, garment making, and polyester weaving. She stated that the firms are prepared to finalise Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the state government during the upcoming Global Partnership Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam on 14th and 15th November.
Savitha said the companies had expressed a preference for setting up operations in the Rayalaseema region, adding that specific locations for the new industries would be determined during the summit. She attributed the surge in investment interest to the new textiles policy introduced by the coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, describing it as a key factor in revitalising the sector.
The minister further noted that additional investors are expected to submit proposals soon, signalling continued growth potential for the state’s textiles industry. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (Handlooms and Textiles) R.P. Sisodia, Commissioner G. Rekha Rani, and other senior officials.
