Karnataka’s Minister for Textiles and Agricultural Marketing, Shivanand Patil, has assured stakeholders of the early execution of the proposed PM MITRA Textile Park in Kalaburagi, which is currently awaiting the completion of key state-level formalities.
The assurance was given during a meeting at the APMC Yard in Kalaburagi with representatives of the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) and Kalaburagi North MLA Kaneez Fatima. A delegation from KKCCI, led by its President Sharanabasappa M. Pappa and Secretary Shivaraj V. Inginshetty, submitted a memorandum seeking the expedited implementation of the project.
During the interaction, Pappa referred to the KKCCI delegation’s recent meeting with Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh during the winter session of Parliament in New Delhi. He stated that the Union Minister had expressed a positive response to their representation and had indicated that further steps would be initiated once the necessary clearances at the state level were completed.
Pappa also highlighted that the Kalaburagi PM MITRA Textile Park was lagging behind similar projects announced in other parts of the country and urged the Karnataka government to complete all pending formalities within a stipulated timeframe to prevent further delays.
Responding to these concerns, Patil said that the land transfer process had been completed and that a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) had already been constituted for the project. He stated that the total project outlay stood at Rs. 390 crore (US $ 43.56 million), of which Rs. 150 crore (US $ 16.75 million) had been sanctioned through the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB). He added that the remaining share had been sought from the state government, and that Rs. 50.9 crore (US $ 5.68 million) had already been released towards tender-related works.
The Minister further noted that tenders had been issued for Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) works, road development, construction of a water barrage and other essential infrastructure. He assured that the remaining works would be taken up and completed at the earliest.
Welcoming the assurances, KKCCI stated that any further delay could adversely impact employment generation and industrial growth in the Kalaburagi region. The industry body emphasised that coordinated action by the state and central governments would be critical to ensuring the time-bound execution of the PM MITRA Textile Park.
