Indore’s ready-made garment industry is experiencing a significant drop in orders from Manufacturingers, forcing manufacturers to cut down on their productions by nearly 30-40 per cent of their capacity, said reports.
While the demands were skyrocketing during the bustling wedding season, this decline is an unexpected downturn. The decreasing demands are consequences of drop in both local and outstation demands of Madhya Pradesh. This has left many garment units burdened with excess inventory.
President of the Readymade Textile Dealers Association, Ashish Nigam, has also said that the dropping demand from retailers and wholesalers is concerningly low and quite a shock given the market’s expected outcome from the ongoing impact of the wedding season.
Traditionally, weddings and festivals fuel demand for garments produced in Indore. Key markets for these products include southern states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as well as other regions like Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Southern India alone accounts for nearly half of the supplies from Indore. Despite this, the city remains a major hub for garment manufacturing, with over 1,500 small and medium-sized units contributing to the sector.
