San Francisco-based biomaterials startup Gozen announced on Wednesday the appointment of Sedef Uncu Aki as its new chief product officer.
She will oversee the creation and marketing of ‘LunaForm,’ a cutting-edge biomaterial that is notable for being both animal- and plastic-free while yet exhibiting excellent performance, in this capacity. This bio-based substance, which is vegan and non-GMO, is derived from the by-products of microbial activity and marks a new chapter in eco-conscious material research.
The ground-breaking material had its premiere during Paris Fashion Week last year in partnership with fashion powerhouse Balenciaga, and both organisations were recognised with the 2023 PETA Fashion Awards’ Most Innovative Partnership award.
“Dr. Aki’s extensive experience and forward-thinking approach in sustainable product development align seamlessly with Gozen’s vision of pioneering high-performance next-gen materials. Her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to innovate and lead the way in next-gen biomaterials with LunaForm and beyond,” said Ece Gozen, CEO of Gozen.
“I am thrilled to join Gozen as the chief product officer and contribute to the development of this biocreation platform that can shape an ecologically resilient future. Gozen’s commitment resonates strongly with my own values, and I look forward to collaborating with the talented team at Gozen to create a positive impact on a global scale,” she added.
She brings more than 20 years of experience in textile innovation and sustainability to Gozen. She had previously served as general manager of Bossa, a well-known textile company, and director of product development and research at Orta, a top denim brand.
