The apparel manufacturing unit of Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills in Greater Noida faced sabotage by its workers, since, after the death of a female worker ‘rumours’ spread and provoked other workers. A video of the sabotage is viral among the apparel fraternity of the Noida.
On the request of anonymity, factory staff told Apparel Resources that Rajmati, a female worker of the factory was scolded by her senior in the Industrial Engineering (IE) department as she could not achieve the given production target. Her punching card was also confiscated by the senior. She was asked to go home due to ill health and also asked to take a week’s leave. Due to this she experienced a sudden deterioration in her health and later passed away at home.
Factory workers got this information the next day and getting angry, they tried to assault the afore mentioned supervisor. Workers also caused sabotage in the factory.
When approached by Apparel Resources, Rajat Jaipuria, CEO of the company said, “All this is unfortunate. The supervisor didn’t even speak to that lady and her punching card was not confiscated at all as we have seen the CCTV recording also. The female worker passed away due to heart attack. Few of the bad elements who were not happy with the recent change in factory management spread rumours and workers got provoked.”
He further added that the police reached timely at the factory and saved the supervisor. Production has started again and factory is working smoothly.
It can be mentioned here that apart from working with prestigious clients, Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills is also known for its sustainable initiatives and this Noida-based unit has more than 2,000 workers.
