The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged assistance from the army to prevent extortion and strengthen security around industries and business institutions.
The country’s top trade body also urged a business-friendly atmosphere, according to a chamber news release.
A team made the demands during a courtesy visit to Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka.
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam commended the Bangladesh Army for carrying out various actions and patrolling industrial areas to maintain safety.
The army chief said, “We will properly fulfill the responsibility to ensure the security of all citizens as well as the business community of the country.”
He said the Bangladesh Army is always active so that local and foreign investors can carry out commercial activities without any hindrance.
He urged the business community to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information if any industrial establishment is subject to any kind of threat.
Former FBCCI presidents Mahbubur Rahman, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Mir Nasir Hossain, AK Azad and Md Jashim Uddin were also present at the event.
In the aftermath of the quote protests, extortionists and vandals began targeting trade and business institutions. Several entrepreneurs reported being targeted by extortionists, who frequently threatened to set fire to their offices and industrial facilities.
According to an ISPR press release, the army chief told business executives that the Bangladesh Army will remain by their side, guaranteeing security for their industries and industrial regions.
The Bangladesh Army launched an industrial security cell on 9th August to provide security in industrial regions amidst the turbulent scenario.
The factories that had been temporarily closed were reopened under the aegis of the security cell, with assistance from the Industrial Police, RAB, and BGB.
Bangladesh Army’s efforts will continue to keep the wheels of the economy rolling and ensure the security of the industrial areas, the press release said.
