Bangladesh’s export-oriented manufacturing sector is set to receive a further boost as Chinese apparel producer Wing Tai Garments (Bangladesh) Co. Ltd. prepares to invest US $ 10.32 million in a new readymade garment factory within the Bepza Economic Zone (Bepza EZ) in Mirsharai, Chattogram.
According to the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza), the proposed facility will produce a wide range of knit and woven garments, including tops, T-shirts, trousers, shorts and jackets for men, women and children. With an annual production target of 1.56 million knitwear items and 4.01 million woven pieces, the investment is expected to strengthen Bangladesh’s competitiveness in more diversified apparel categories.
The project is also set to create 3,158 new jobs, underscoring Bepza EZ’s growing appeal as an emerging industrial hub backed by improved infrastructure and investor-friendly policies.
An investment agreement was signed at the Bepza Complex in Dhaka by Li Qingqi, General Manager of Wing Tai Garments (Bangladesh) Co. Ltd., and Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) at Bepza.
Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, Executive Chairman of Bepza, attended the ceremony and reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to supporting investors through streamlined services and a favourable operational environment. He noted that Bepza EZ continues to attract global manufacturers owing to its strategic location and strengthening logistics network.
The latest pledge further reinforces Bepza EZ’s role as a catalyst for industrial expansion, employment generation and increased foreign direct investment in Bangladesh’s garment sector.
