Chairman of the Karnataka State Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation, Chetan K. Gowda has urged the Karnataka government to announce the establishment of a textile park in Shivamogga in the forthcoming State Budget and allocate the required funds to the Department of Handlooms and Textiles.
Gowda met Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on 2nd March and submitted a memorandum outlining the need to strengthen the textile sector in Shivamogga taluk. In the representation, he stated that a large number of women, men and young people from surrounding areas were already employed in ready-made garment factories.
According to Gowda, the establishment of additional garment and textile units in the taluk would create more employment opportunities for local residents and help expand the region’s industrial base. He emphasised that a textile park in Shivamogga could be developed by leveraging schemes offered by both the State and the Central governments, which would contribute to industrial growth while providing sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking to the media, Gowda said he had also submitted representations to D. K. Shivakumar, Shivanand Patil, and Madhu Bangarappa seeking their support for the proposal.
He further stated that B. V. Srinivas had responded positively to the demand. Gowda expressed hope that the government would give serious consideration to the proposal and include the announcement of a textile park in the forthcoming State Budget to strengthen employment prospects in Shivamogga district.
