The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lectra Singapore PTE Ltd., a global technology firm specialising in CAD/CAM and digital solutions for the apparel and textile industry. The agreement aims to boost digital skills, research capacity and training quality for students and professionals in Bangladesh’s garment sector.
The MoU was signed at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara by Pascal Pierra, Vice President of Lectra Singapore, and Inamul Haq Khan, Acting President of BGMEA, according to a statement from the association.
As part of the partnership, Lectra will provide BGMEA with 15 complimentary licences for its leading software platforms, including Kaledo Style, Modaris 3D and DiaminoFashion Interactive. The tools will be used to train students and educators in advanced design, pattern-making and marker-making—skills increasingly in demand in the global apparel industry.
BGMEA said the collaboration would significantly enhance the employability of graduates and support the continuous upskilling of instructors through specialised training delivered by Lectra experts.
Members of the BGMEA Skill Development Programme Committee and representatives from Lectra’s local agent, Aamra Resource Team, attended the signing ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Acting President Inamul Haq Khan said the development of a technology-driven, skilled workforce was essential for the future of Bangladesh’s garment industry. He said the partnership with Lectra would strengthen the sector’s global competitiveness and ensure training met international standards.
Lectra Vice President Pascal Pierra said the company was pleased to include BGMEA in its education partner programme, adding that the initiative aimed to support the growth of future Bangladeshi talent in fashion technology.
The partnership is expected to accelerate digital transformation within Bangladesh’s apparel industry, improve training quality and better align the sector with international technical benchmarks.
