Denim giant Levi’s has joined hands with Dyneema, the “world’s strongest fibre” for one of its latest collections to increase strength at a minimum weight. The fibre, branded as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) from DSM is said to be up to 15 times stronger than quality steel, which makes the jeans last for a longer duration and is up to 40% stronger than aramid fibres, and is resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. Levi’s 501 Warrior and Trooper styles are added to the list of styles incorporating this material which will enhance performance in abrasion resistance by 25 per cent and increase the strength over the usual jeans of equal weight. Dyneema is usually found in safety gloves for the metal working industry, bullet resistant armour and clothing for police and military personnel but unlike other industrial fibres, this one is soft in nature and thus, does not compromise on the comfort and fit of the silhouette.
