Huazhu Accessories Co. Ltd, a Chinese manufacturer of apparel and luggage accessories, has announced plans to invest US $ 16.34 million to set up a manufacturing facility at the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority’s (BEPZA) Economic Zone in Mirsarai, Chattogram.
The investment agreement was signed at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka between Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) at BEPZA, and Yang Yanmei, Managing Director of Huazhu Accessories Co. Ltd.
According to BEPZA, the project is expected to create employment for around 1,395 Bangladeshi nationals. The unit is designed with an annual production capacity of 4 million kilogrammes, a scale that is expected to strengthen Bangladesh’s backward linkage capabilities in lingerie, garment accessories and luggage manufacturing, thereby supporting the country’s export-oriented apparel sector.
