ITRH’s latest collection, ‘Natak’, that was showcased at Dubai Fashion Week, draws its inspiration from the vibrant and dramatic essence of Indian theatre, translating its maximalist flair into bold yet refined fashion statements. Infused with theatrical grandeur, the collection celebrates an art form that thrives on visual spectacle while maintaining a delicate balance of elegance.
Key pieces incorporate voluminous silhouettes that are rooted in traditional Indian garments such as choli, kaftan, saree and lehenga. These iconic shapes are thoughtfully reinterpreted to exude opulence, rendering each piece as a striking yet graceful homage to the rich cultural heritage that inspires it.
This season sees the signature ITRH crystal textile being reimagined, integrating with the softness of chiffons and feathers to create an ethereal dimension that blends maximalism with subtlety – a fusion that adds a new layer of sophistication to the collection.
Continuing the label’s tradition of intricate, heavy embroidery, the collection showcases bold stones and crystals. However, this season’s embellishments are differentiated by softer colour palettes that contrast with the bold materials, achieving a harmonious blend of intensity and delicacy.
Commenting on the collection, Ridhi Bansal and Mohit Rai said, “Bling and drama are a very inherent part of our brand and innate to our aesthetic. Natak also means drama. The inspiration comes from the regional, local natak performances we have all grown up watching. The stage shows, the drama, theatrics, makeup, dramatic costumes – that’s the inspiration for this collection.”
The ‘Natak’ collection commands attention with its striking interplay of volume, texture and colour – all the while honouring the grandeur associated with Indian theatre. The collection can best be described as a celebration of contrasts, balancing dramatic elements with soft, romantic touches and bold statements with subtle elegance.
