India’s leading sweater and knitted garment manufacturing company Active Clothing Co. Ltd., Mohali (Punjab) is going for a massive expansion, which was clearly evident from its announcement to enhance its annual capacity by another 1 million sweaters.
The company, which has completed 25 years in business, has inked an agreement with Japan-based prestigious flat knitting machine manufacturing company Shima Seiki for the import of machinery.
The project, which is expected to have around 168 flat knitting machines, will, in all likelihood, become fully operational by April 2023. Notably, the company already has a state-of-the-art unit with machines of Shima Seiki-Japan & Stoll-Germany, which is like its technology partner.
The expansion is set to happen in the company’s existing factory that’s located in Village Badali Ala Singh, District Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India.
Once the project materialises, Active Clothing expects to see a growth of almost 30 percent – thereby aiming to become a dominant player in its product category in India.

Rajesh Mehra, MD of the company, told Apparel Resources, “Post Covid, we have focused on exports and due to our compliant factory, quality of products, new product development and timely delivery, we could add prestigious brands and retailers like Next, George (ASDA), Tchibo and Monoprix to our portfolio. Few new buyers are also in our touch and, hopefully, we will start working for them as well.”
He further added that most of the buyers are sourcing sweaters and full coordinated sets for kids.
“Sweater manufacturing segment in India is mostly unorganised, so credible suppliers like us, who are fully compliant, have large manufacturing capacities and expertise knowledge in the product category, got priority. Also, we benefited from the shifting of orders from China to India,” said Rajesh.
Though the company, currently, has a ratio of 50: 50 between export and domestic, it said that the tilt will be more towards export in future.
