Andrea Incontri is bidding adieu to Tod’s, resigning from his five-year-old role as the creative director of the menswear segment of the brand. The resignation will be effective June 30 onwards.
Incontri said Tod’s had been “a school and an important experience in [his] development,” thanking Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Diego Della Valle and his brother Andrea for their “support and enthusiasm.”
Diego Della Valle shared similar feelings, as he stressed upon the positive contribution provided by Incontri during his time at Tod’s.
Incontri launched his brand in 2009, after graduating from the Politecnico di Milano in architecture, and climbed his first steps towards industry-wide recognition in the following year by winning the men’s edition of the “Who Is on Next?” talent search for the accessories category.
With garments that championed details and cleverly utilised high-end materials, the designer expanded his label’s offering to menswear, further diversifying to womenswear in 2012. This women’s collection propelled him further in his professional life as he made it to the schedule of the Italian Fashion Chamber’s official fashion week in February 2013.
Tod’s showcased its Spring Summer 2020 men’s collection last week at Milan’s Villa Necchi Campiglio, which revolved around the theme: driving. Seeing the lack of active presence of the designer during the show, many were speculating his departure.
No successor has been announced yet.
The change in administration comes amidst company-wide revamp as Diego Della Valle has been working towards a new business model while launching a project called Tod’s Factory, in a reference to Andy Warhol.
The streetwear project includes capsule collections and special edition collaboration with the brand’s friends and other renowned designers such as Alessandro Dell’Acqua.
