Avery Dennison, an apparel labelling and RFID specialist, recently collaborated with Evrythng, a software provider to launch a blockchain technology solution ‘track to rack’ that aims at the demand of better transparency and traceability within the apparel supply chain.

This launch is in partnership with Matthew Williams’s fashion label 1017 ALYX 9SM. The tool allows the brand to connect with customers directly via a QR code on the label.

The increasing concern over sustainability, ethically sourced fashion, alongside clothing provenance are on the rise. The new development aims to tap these issues providing the customers with better knowledge of how their garment has been made.

Customers using their smartphones can scan the labels and get the full information of a garment journey and track it back from creation to the rack and point of sale. They can also confirm the authenticity of the product, along with its sustainability credentials.

Moreover, the brands can track the product throughout the supply chain, getting better data and statistics via Evrythng Blockchain Integration Hub partner IOTA’s distributed ledger, across different sales channels and consumer preferences in real time.

“Our innovative solution combines our Janela platform with a new blockchain layer, providing consumers and brands with fundamental uncompromisable data. Brands and consumers can know that the information they are being shown about the garment’s creation process is 100 per cent accurate and can be trusted implicitly. This is a watershed moment for improving brand transparency and trust.” said Debbie Shakespeare, Senior Director of Sustainability and Compliance, Avery Dennison.
