Tirupur, one of India’s best self-developed apparel export cluster, is having a stirring target of apparel export of Rs. 1 lakh crore by the year 2020. The cluster is currently having an annual turnover of Rs. 40,000 crore. Most of the exporters and manufacturers that AO spoke to revealed their strategies to achieve this target, which includes lean implementation, adopting automation, skilling their existing and new workforce, deskilling with the increased dependency on machines, etc. They are also organizing themselves by consolidating their buyers, adding new markets, and focusing on US and other emerging countries.
