Tirupur, one of India’s best self-developed apparel export cluster, is having a stirring target of apparel export of Rs. 1 lakh crore by the year 2020. The cluster is currently having an annual turnover of Rs. 40,000 crore. Most of the exporters and manufacturers that AO spoke to revealed their strategies to achieve this target, which includes lean implementation, adopting automation, skilling their existing and new workforce, deskilling with the increased dependency on machines, etc. They are also organizing themselves by consolidating their buyers, adding new markets, and focusing on US and other emerging countries.
The textile and garment industry is going through an interesting transformation as most companies along the supply chain are now seeing the entrance of the next generation in business. Team AO meets the GenNext of the Ludhiana-based Group Sharman Udyog and Sangam Weavers, who believe that sustainable growth is the direction for next phase of development.
The first half of 2017 was a mixed response for the Indian home furnishing industry. Meeting several exporters across the country, AO brings out the real picture.
Besides the above, our regular columns of Mind Tree, Fashion Trends, H2F, Industry Wire, Export Statistics, Resource Centre, etc. make the issue worth reading.
