It is a pleasure to present to you the latest issue of Apparel Online. The recently concluded National Textile Conference, well-attended by textile magnates from all over the country, witnessed intense discussion on the topic ‘Synthetic Textile: Key to Increase Global Share’. Organized by The Textile Association of India (Delhi), wherein it was concluded that the use of polyester is on the increase – be it in Indian apparel export, domestic market or global apparel business. While countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Korea and even Taiwan are far ahead of India in producing polyester; Vietnam is exporting synthetic-based apparels much more than India. But will India be able to produce and use more of polyester…, the session raised some pertinent questions. The Government is serious on ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge). Among the most contentious norms in sustainable initiatives today, CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) has come up with a mandate to drive ZLD in 8 water polluting industries (including textile) in 9 states, which includes Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal and Uttarakhand, with a timeline for compliance set for December 2016. The recently concluded 5th Annual Summit of Sustainable Business Leadership Forum by Sustainability Outlook which witnessed good gathering of stakeholders from the entire supply chain, witnessed intensive discussion on various dimensions of not only ZLD, but many other sustainable aspects under the theme ‘Pathways to 2040: Collaborate Create Innovate’. Besides the above, our regular columns of Mind Tree, H2F, Fashion Trends, Industry Wire, Resource Centre, Export Statistics, etc. make the issue worth reading.
