A recent CAG report has confirmed that officials and other people at the helm of AEPC are misusing their powers and funds granted by the MOT (Ministry of Textiles), with little or no accountability on what they are doing for apparel exporters, which is one of the prime objectives of instituting the council. Be it the audit report which raises serious corruption charges against AEPC or reply of MOT to the Delhi High Court on the issue of Electronic Voting System (EVS), AEPC is under ‘fire’ for its defiance for refusing to be accountable. The only ray of hope is the struggle of few like-minded people of Apparel House Exporters Association (AHEA) who are fighting on various fronts for transparency in the working of AEPC. Under ‘Business Strategy’, the magazine gives coverage to the growth story of one of the world’s largest manufacturers of linen yarn: Kingdom Holdings Limited, China. The company which began with just 10 looms in 1979 shifted its focus towards linen yarn in 1999 with a small capacity of 5,000 spindles, today has grown to become the largest in terms of linen exports with a capacity of 100,000 spindles. Eric Sun, International Commercial Director, shares the company’s strategy of tapping potential emerging markets for profitable growth in linen. Besides the above, the release of new Foreign Trade Policy for the period 2015 to 2020; and Jaipur home industry emerging as a strong and independent sector in exports, along with our regular columns of Mind Tree, H2F, Fashion Trends, Industry Wire, Value Addition, Resource Centre, Export Statistics, etc. make the issue worth reading.
