Cutting is considered to be the most important operation in apparel manufacturing because firstly, it handles the costliest material resource – the fabric. Secondly, the spreading and cutting process is irreversible; the concept of repair or alteration does not work here. Measuring how each of the processes are performing results in building efficiencies leading to cost advantage.
