Patterns capture the quirk in various elements, this season opting for unconventional characters and branding as the focal point on the garment, taking their inspiration from cartoons, popular FMCG products to a fantastic riot of fairies, squirrels, owls and swans. While Dolce & Gabbana had squirrels, nibbling on nuts, appliquéd over a sky blue lace skirt merging what is child like with the elegant, Moschino had his ensembles coloured in bright yellow to focus on the many mischievous and comic expressions of SpongeBob SquarePants in a few and on others, McDonald’s being translated to full length dresses and eccentric gowns. Holly Fulton and House of Holland, in comparison, took a rather sombre approach by opting for enlarged hand patterns and beauty accessories flanked on short dresses and coats.
