Denims can be faded, but the love for them never fades away!
According to a recent study report published by Fior Markets, titled ‘Global Denim Jeans Market 2020 by Manufacturers, Regions, Type and Application, Forecast to 2025’, based on extensive surveys with leading industry stakeholders – the global denim jeans market size is expected to gain market growth in the forecast period of 2020 to 2025, with a CAGR of 3.3 per cent in the forecast period of 2020 to 2025 and is expected to reach USD 60750 million by 2025, from USD 53250 million in 2019.
Those numbers are loud and clear enough to bring us to the fact that denim is forever! It is for all seasons. Loved by all generations – each celebrated for flaunting the uniqueness of the trend matching with the respective times, denim scores big for three key reasons – comfort, style, and durability. Precisely why it is on the priority list of both the manufacturers/retailers and shoppers.
“Denim is one raw material that fascinates me the most because of its versatility and timelessness. It’s a material without frontiers of age, without social and economic boundaries, that expresses energy and a sense of freedom,” believes Rajiv Bajaj, Product Manager, Jack & Jones at Bestseller India. Rajiv has played a vital role in taking the esteemed Group’s denim category to the next level. He strongly feels, and it evidently comes across in the brand’s offerings too, that it would be quite strenuous to “find one item of clothing that is as broadly accepted and adored the world over as denim.”
We couldn’t agree more! One of the most noteworthy examples to back the opinion is the fact that workwear is no more dependant on formal wear, mostly comprising meticulously designed and styled business suits. “Unlike before, professionalism is no more synonymous with a sharp suit and a complementing tie. Actively participating in the evolution process, customers today have begun to experiment with various silhouettes for business meetings, which are no longer confined to boardrooms, and are in fact becoming more open to the idea of discussing work at public places like coffee shops. And so, we have noticed that chic casuals have taken over quite seamlessly even in the professional space. Denim, being a versatile choice, has been a winner hands down,” avers Rajiv.
All that coming from an industry stalwart makes us all the more drawn, and clearly, we are intrigued to know what’s trending in denim fashion this season. Well, going by the Spring/Summer 2020 fashion runways, style pundits have predicted, and we have well already begun to witness the biggest jean trends for all those itching to stay ahead of everyone when it comes to flaunting the latest fashion trends, as well as for all those who must ace the game of stocking up their outlets with the freshest fashion collections to facilitate the former lot.
Get ready to sneak a peek — and update your wardrobes AND retail stores (both online and offline) — into all things denim that every prominent designer set the runways afire with!
Bootcut/Flared
Bootcut is back with a bang! The hit 70s style — body-hugging through the hip and thigh, breaking at the calf into a bootcut leg opening rendering a long, lean look — was omnipresent on all the prominent S/S 2020 runways. The comeback of the classic flared denim silhouette is here to storm the fashion apparel industry for few years.
Wide-legged
More fabric, more flare, more fashion! Wide-legged denims — be it the full-length options or the cropped ones — are for the consumer category that loves to keep it cool and casual. The relaxed fit of the style is undoubtedly its USP, clearly turning it into a rage, especially amongst the millennials.
High-waisted skinny
Loose silhouettes are certainly a hit, but skinnies have won their place back in the retail stores as well as fashion closets! Though comfort is on top of the minds of most consumers, and skin-tight denims surely don’t serve that purpose, the bottom line is the style reigned supreme on the fashion runways.
Front seams/Ribbing/Pleats
Bringing back the vintage vibes, denims flaunting front pleats, seams and ribbing have been one of the biggest highlights of the S/S 2020 runway shows. The unique style has already become a huge hit, giving a chic reason to women for tucking in their uber cool blouses and tees and cinching their waistlines with trendy belts.
Distressed/Ripped
These were met with a low demand rate in 2019, but looks like it was just a brief stint for the trend, as the millennials are in absolute awe of it once again. So much so that that distressed or ripped denims, even the stylishly shredded ones, took the fashion shows by storm this year.
Vintage
Vintage is in vogue and how! And the much-loved 80s fashion isn’t going anywhere soon. The runways were abuzz with fashion models showcasing the old-school trend with utmost panache and finesse, exuding upcycled vibes from the word go.
Short-cropped
Culottes, cropped, long shorts – these were denim styles that owned the Spring/Summer 2020 ramps. Looks like shorter hemlines have a long way to way!
Slit
Slits add more style and oomph to a look, and catwalk models aced the trend with impressive flair. From the teasing side slits to the bolder front ones or in various other artistically designed cuts – the exciting trend indeed made everyone sit up and take notice.
Time to embrace the big trend – if not already, and get it in your ‘jeans’!
