A step further into the sheer trend, following the past seasons of cheap synthetics and sheer polyesters, it is finally time of the fine ‘Mesh’. Traditionally associated with sportswear, mesh fabrics have taken an established place on the trend charts of fashionable casual wear with designers sending varying iteration down the runways from open-weave knitwear to sheer micro mesh inserts. Not only for women spotted on the fashion streets, but also for men for S/S ’14 by Christopher Raeburn, Rick Owens, Vivienne Westwood and Siblings, these lightweight and airy-fabrics were used to delineate the energetic and obscure mood. Retailers like Topshop, Asos and Nasty Gal, are already making more ready-to-wear and aesthetic variations of the trend for the retail shelves in the form of subtle inserts, layered mesh garments, mesh underclothes and accessories. Key is to keep the trend simple, and not overdo the Mesh!
