Like every year, the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale for Spring Resort 2019 ended on decadence and flair for opulent fashion. Shantanu & Nikhil led down a bold parade of Black, gold and the ‘ultimate’ red on the runways with their closing collection named Recruit, with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan as the show stopper.
The line reprised ‘the modern Indian woman’ in the contemporary world, with exaggerated shoulders and accessories. It boasted of edgy, clear-cut aesthetics with techniques such as laser cutting, complex draping and play on volumes slammed over accentuating silhouettes with waist-bound accessories such as leather belts, contrasting lapels, floor-length asymmetric capes, and half way belts.
The highlight of the collection was a draped voluminous gown in a fiery red print plisse media with leather medallion trims and layering, along with the show-stopper garment that included a corseted bodice with leather belt trims and thigh-high structured slits.
“Showcasing Recruit at the Lakmé Absolute Ultimate Finale has been extremely special for us as it’s the pinnacle to our long-standing association with Lakmé Fashion Week. The signature S&N Androgynous Bandhgala has been reworked with exaggerated drapes, eclectic medallions and structured over -sized shoulders. Recruit arises from Shantanu & Nikhil’s India Story but carries forth the Final Salute of adherence that withstands feminine injustice of any sort” – Shantanu & Nikhil, Lakmé Absolute Ultimate Finale Designers
“Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale has always been special to me. I loved Shantanu & Nikhil’s interpretation of the theme ‘Matte Reinvent’ into their fabulous collection. The new Matte Ultimate Lip Colors have won my heart, and as the ‘Red Extreme’ shade is my favourite. It’s actually a shade that has been beautifully brought alive by the finale collection tonight,” says Kareena Kapoor Khan, Lakmé Brand Ambassador
Commenting on the exciting Ultimate Finale, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said, “The finale this season was indeed an ultimate finish to Lakmé Fashion Week. Shantanu & Nikhil interpreted our beauty theme of ‘Matte reinvent’ perfectly – the collection was intensely matte yet comfortably glamorous.”
