The Gen Next Programme of Lakme Fashion week has announced this year’s set of fresh designers who would be showcasing their collections at the Lakme Fashion Week A/W 18.
Every year, this programme launches a new set of designers giving them an opportunity to enter the industry. Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé, says that this show helps them unearth new talent every season and discover the future of Indian Fashion. As a part of LFW Advisory Board, the bigwigs of the industry like Anamika Khanna, Anita Dongre, Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, Sabyasachi, Priya Tanna etc conferred in a meeting held on 20th June 2018 and handpicked these designers.
The mix of designers this year not only plays with graphics, designs and silhouettes but also the technical parts like fabrics, fit, yarns etc.
Here are few designers who are set to showcase their skills at the fashion extravaganza.
Anurag Gupta, 28, from Noida, is going to present a collection inspired by artist M.C. Escher’s Day and Night Artwork by showing metamorphic changes through silhouette, change of form, colour, motif, fabrics, and dyes with effective use of Khadi Denim.
Ajay Kumar Singh, 33, is a New Delhi based designer whose label AUR beautifully prints motifs, drawn by mentally disabled children, on Khadi, and dyes it with Kantha detailing or the season’s collection.
Kanika Sachdev, 32, New Delhi started the design initiative Jajaaboor that beautifully transmutes experiences into stories on garments. She has worked with reactive prints and embroidery on Khadi, Cotton, Chanderi Silk, and Silk Organza for the show.
The founder of label SWGT, Shweta Gupta, 32 is a Delhi based designer who will use this platform to show her unique collection that plays with weaves and texture using various yarns and hand manipulation to present a modern take on nomadic travelers.
Yadvi Agarwal, 28, New Delhi, works on the confluence of indigenous and exotic as her collection plays on lines of Parisian Impressionism on indigenous traditional textiles. Her label, Yavi, is about the place where art meets fashion. The collection includes multiple layers of myriad prints and recondite patterns.
The designers feel extremely elated on getting the opportunity of the lifetime as the level of exposure the event provides is highlighted when we see designers like Rahul Mishra, Nachiket Barve, Masaba Gupta, Kallol Dutta, Aneeth Arora, etc, who rose to fame by the same platform.
