Lakmé Fashion Week W/F’19 and smartwater unveil winners of ‘The Platform’

Bloni by Akshat Bansal, SWGT by Shweta Gupta and Salita Nanda have bagged the second edition of ‘The Platform’, a programme by Coca-Cola’s leading premium water brand, smartwater, in association with the Lakmé Fashion Week, to identify and mentor upcoming designers after the competitive rounds.

This win enables the winners to present their creations at the Winter/Festive 2019 edition of Lakmé Fashion Week to be held from 21 to 25 August 2019 at St. Regis, Mumbai.

‘The Platform’ by smartwater aims at recognising young and innovative designers of India and pushing them to create designs that are out of the box and, showcasing the same at Lakmé Fashion Week. Mirroring the origin story of smartwater ‘The Platform’, works towards unearthing talent, developed on the principles of innovation, risk taking and forward thinking.

#MadeDifferently was the theme this season, and as per its name, it required the designers to demonstrate cutting-edge technology, innovation in fabrics/materials or surface application.

The winners were picked by the eminent jury comprising bigwigs of the industry, including Anoop Manohar, Director–Emerging Categories, Coca-Cola India; Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance; Nonita Kalra, Editor of Harper’s Bazaar; Amit Aggarwal, Designer; and Azmina Rahimtoola, Co-owner at Atosa, at a jury meeting on 5 July 2019 at Olive Bar and Kitchen in Khar.

On the announcement of the winners, Anoop Manohar said, “‘The Platform’ was introduced by smartwater last year with one simple idea of recognising the creativity and skill of the enormously talented designers across India. We are extremely proud to have successfully enabled some of the meritorious new generation designers to set high benchmarks across the fashion fraternity through ‘The Platform’. We feel honoured to be surrounded by such talents, who portrayed the theme ‘Made Differently’ magnificently in their designs with a touch of innovation. Looking at the entries that reflected the increased enthusiasm for ‘The Platform’ among young designers, we feel all the more encouraged to come up with creative themes, more challenging and more exciting for the next edition”.
