Puma and First Mile, a company supporting disenfranchised communities in Haiti, Honduras and Taiwan, have collaborated for a sustainable project. The duo announced the launch of the collaborative sportswear collection of footwear and apparel made out of plastic bottles that will be recycled to produce polyester. The line will be rolled out in the first half of 2020.
“Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental problems the world faces today. That is why we are very excited to join First Mile and be a part of the solution while supporting low-income communities and transparency supply chains”. – Adam Petrick, Global Director, Brand and Marketing, Puma
First Mile added that it has produced over 300 tons of recycled yarn in 2018 with the efforts done by a collection network of over 4,000 people. “The Puma x first Mile collaboration will positively impact lives by giving value to plastic waste”, said First Mile’s Director of Partnerships, Kelsey Halling, adding to the statement.

The development was announced a couple of months after competitor Adidas vowed to increase the production of shoes containing recycled plastic waste- right from five million pairs in 2018 to a hefty number of 11 million pairs in 2019.
