Khadi and Village Industries Commission to celebrate 150 Years of Gandhi with Lakmé Fashion Week W/F’19

Lakmé Fashion Week is all set to host the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth Anniversary and the celebration of Khadi, India’s Fabric of Freedom, with The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The KVIC is collaborating with the upcoming designers Gaurav Khanijo, Anuj Bhutani and Pallavi Dhyani to present a special collection championing hand-spun and hand-woven cotton and silk Khadi fabrics on Day 2 of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019.

Select KVIC stores will carry this capsule collection, which will be a collaborative effort of the three designers along with artisans associated with KVIC. Designer Anuj Bhutani will deliver ‘comfort luxury’ using fabric exploration, textiles and sustainability through his collection, while designer Gaurav Khanijo, of label ‘Khanijo’, will indulge in an intricate SWOT analysis of the fabric of our future.

Finally, designer Pallavi Dhyani of the label ‘Three’ will showcase modern, minimal and utility-promoting silhouettes. This range also will mark the label’s first ever menswear range.

A symbol of Indian textile heritage, Khadi has been brought to the centre stage over the years for its uniqueness of being hand spun, handwoven and a truly sustainable fabric.

Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC reiterated that “Khadi is the fabric of the future. Due to its unique eco-friendly nature and perfect and vivid fabric qualities, Khadi has become a stylish narrative that is now popularly embraced by designers. A versatile fashion fabric, Khadi has been used as a tool to navigate India through its hard-won independence. Even today, past 72 years, the fabric continues to inspire and amaze creative minds across all International borders. Known as the ‘Fabric of India’, Khadi has proven to be a culture in itself, one that truly emits the pride of our country’s achievements.”

Innovations in Khadi are now drawing huge national and international appeal. Young and famous fashion designers are innovating in Khadi and giving Khadi a new twist. Expanding the colour palette, westernising the cuts and creating new trends in itself, the Khadi fabric has transcended itself as a sustainable fabric of the future,” he further added.

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 is scheduled to be held from 21 to 25 August 2019.
