US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump has finally closed the curtain on her eponymous fashion line.
Ivanka’s label was launched in 2007 as a fine jewellery brand and soon added many other categories such as apparel, footwear, fragrances and accessories to its portfolio. The brand was said to be valued at US $ 100 mn before the Trump family set foot in the White House.
Her brand did exceedingly well till 2016 when wholesale revenue was soaring at 61 per cent growth. However, soon after the mixed response to her father’s policies, the label was kicked out of prominent stores like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and most recently Hudson’s Bay.
Though Ivanka moved out of the brand formally in 2017 and Abigail Klem replaced her as the new President, the label continued to garner distaste amongst shoppers due to reasons like production outside of America.
The shutdown was finally made public with a statement saying, “This decision has nothing to do with the performance of the brand and is based solely on Ivanka’s decision to remain in Washington indefinitely.”
It is unclear how much the decision is related to Trump’s Washington duties as the brand has been the centre of several protests and controversies in the last year.
The fashion brand has not revealed how many people exactly will be losing their jobs due to this move but it’s website lists a full-time staff of 12. Ivanka said, “I am beyond grateful for the work of our incredible team who has inspired so many women, each other and myself included. While we will not continue our mission together, I know that each of them will thrive in their next chapter.”
