Bringing Vietnam closer to India…

It’s April and there is nothing more endearing than being in Vietnam again for SaigonTex 2019. I have been visiting this biggest and one of the most influential events in Vietnam’s garment and textile sector for last few years, and this time too, I will be there with my team. What pleases me the most is not only the magnitude and the scale at which the event has been growing each year, but also the increasing readiness of the nation to embrace the best of world’s technologies and innovation. For any fast-growing garment and textile hub, nothing holds more significance than understanding the relevance of technology and then simultaneously investing in it. Vietnam has been doing it especially over the last few years and there is no better place to see it than SaigonTex. There were over 26,000 trade visitors last year and if there was something both the exhibitors and visitors shared in unison, then it was Vietnam’s growing affinity for technology. Last year, if I remember clearly, the event was spread into 9 zones with each zone consisting of over 100 participants across the globe, which was much bigger than what we had seen in 2017 and 2016. I am sure with the efforts of VITAS and VINATEX and the other organising bodies, the 2019 event is going to be bigger than 2018.

Besides being at SaigonTex 2019 and meeting the technology bigwigs, I am also looking forward to this visit to meet some of the best garment and textile manufacturers in the country and update them on the buzzing Indian retail industry. This will build and bolster the bonding between India and Vietnam and also tell the industry about the vastness and flexibility of Indian market. I am happy to state here that the Apparel Sourcing Week (ASW) event, organised by Apparel Resources, which concluded recently at Bangalore, India, turned out be such a resounding success that we are now encouraged to come out with our next event soon. The event managed to successfully create business opportunities – as expected – for the apparel manufacturers of Bangladesh and fashion retailers of India. This time around, we look forward to participation from companies in Vietnam too.

While ASW 2019 was an enriching experience for India to explore the best of the apparel collections of Bangladeshi garment manufacturers, I am confident that our second edition will give a new direction in cementing business relations between Vietnam and India. In fact, I will not be surprised if ASW, in the coming years, achieves the same stature for garment manufacturers in India that SaigonTex has attained for global technology providers.

I hope this visit and all the subsequent visits to the country in the coming months will not only enable us to bring Vietnamese companies closer to Indian market but also help us generate business opportunities for both the nations. I am confident that it will happen soon!
