The opening ceremony of Heritage Handloom Festival 2020, organised by the Association of Fashion Designers of Bangladesh (AFDB) and the SME Foundation, was held recently in Dhaka.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the festival has gone virtual this year.
The event, which kickstarted earlier this week to establish links between weavers and top designers and create strong international and domestic markets, would showcase products like saris, lungis, gamchas, khadi, nakshi kanthas, Benarsi saris, Tangail saris, Jamdani saris, etc.
Taking part in the event, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun underlined the need to take the rich and diverse weaving, textile industries along with handicraft of Bangladesh to a wider range of buyers and thus advised the entrepreneurs to focus more on developing domestic markets besides the international ones.
The Industries Minister also called upon the AFDB to take initiatives to bring modern technologies to improve the quality of various potential weaving and textile products in the country while appreciating the AFDB for its initiative to showcase the products made by local weavers to buyers through web-based platform during the pandemic period.
With its slogan ‘My product is my country, Digital Bangladesh’, the digital page of the Heritage Handloom Festival would be open 24×7 till 28 November to showcase a wide range of products to the visitors.
