The sixth bi-annual cotton conference will be held in Coimbatore on 9th and 10th August, jointly organised by the Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) and the Indian Cotton Association Ltd (ICAL), a Punjab-based organisation.
Thulasidaran, president of the ICF, told the media that, “All issues related to cotton will be discussed at the conference. Experts from various cotton-related sectors including reputed industry leaders, office bearers from various associations and research organisations will speak about the national and global scenario of cotton, the changing trends, expectations from the markets, environmental-aspects, and sustainability.”
The event is anticipated to draw close to 400 attendees from Egypt, Malaysia, and other international nations in addition to those from India. In order to present their opinions to the government for the required policy efforts at the federal and state levels, the participants will confer and gather information.
Thulasidharan noted that a number of factors have harmed 30 per cent of the exports from the textile industry. The market was being impacted by the low yield of cotton and the holding of cotton by a few stakeholders. He continued, “In order to make the Indian textile and apparel sector globally competitive, the import duty on cotton should be eliminated.”
Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner, Union Ministry of Textiles, will inaugurate the conference on 9th August, and Selvendaran, Agriculture Secretary, Madhya Pradesh, will be the guest of honour.
