Texworld USA, the largest sourcing event in North America for apparel fabric buyers, R&D and product development specialists, designers, merchandisers and overseas sourcing professionals, recently concluded its latest edition at New York City’s Javits Convention Center, running alongside Apparel Sourcing and Home Textile Sourcing Expo or HTSE (known as only sourcing event in North America to solely focus on fabrics and finished soft goods for all home applications), with a total of 328 exhibitors. Asian participants dominated the fair, with 169 exhibitors representing China, 55 from Korea, 23 were from Taiwan and 85 exhibitors were a mix from Pakistan, Bangladesh, US, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Spain and Mauritius. While only 19 exhibitors represented India, 7 were in embroidery and balance in woven prints, fibres and yarns. With lack of proper promotion at such a big stage, it is not hard to understand why China gets most of the US business.
With the world moving towards sustainable fashion and green living it was observed that the attendees were more inclined towards eco-friendly fabrics like the biodegradable tencels, the cellulosic “skin to skin” fabric micromodal, recycled cotton, recycled polyesters and pro-modals to mention a few. Fabrics that were showcased in majority included a range of finer light weight fabrics with gsm counts of 75-140 and high-value yarns such as micro modals, tencels, viscose linen, micromodal silks, recycled cotton, recycled polyester, modal angora and others. The demand for the collections of 2012-13 included high stretch fabrics making 15% stretch spandex a highly appreciated piece of the exhibition. Finishes such as anti-pilling on viscose and forever white on cottons were also a high demand for the collections of 2012-13.
Mercury Fabrics, an integrated manufacturer of high quality knits, displayed three prominent varieties – micromodal spandex, viscose linen and pro-modal spandex. The company’s new and innovative eco-friendly range was highly appreciated by all and received the maximum footfall in fabric section
The end use of Indian fabrics was not limited to casual wear only; it included sportswear, evening dresses, kids wear, swimsuits, lingerie, cover ups and accessories such as baby bibs and blankets, handbags and more. The buyers showed keen interest and were looking out for a lot of eco-friendly fabrics and new blends and structures with finer counts of 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
Even knits had a lot of new developments ranging from fabrics like micro-modals, pro-modals, tencels, cotton and polyester injection slubs, viscose linen, modal angora, micro modal silk, micro modal cashmere, dull viscose wool, mélanges in slub, blends in recycled cotton and polyester and more…
Texworld through its style insight section displayed selected fabrics showcasing the upcoming trends of the year 2012-13; some of the fabrics in this section were really nice like a few mercerized ones and some suedes from China. The section just lacked the presence of knits in its display, As a matter of fact the whole event didn’t represent much knits with only a few players like us.
Mercury Fabrics is an integrated manufacturer of high quality knits and we displayed three prominent varieties – micromodal spandex, viscose linen and pro-modal spandex – that too under lenzing umbrella. Our company’s eco-friendly range was really appreciated and liked by all and the new and innovative collection might be the reason that our booth was rated as the maximum footfall receiving booth in fabrics section, receiving a great response. Mercury fabrics collection consisted of grey mélange modal/cashmere, dull viscose/wool 85:15, cotton/modal 30:70, organic cotton/modal 60:40, micro modal 100%, modal/cashmere 95:05, micro modal/silk 80:20, viscose /linen 80:20, modal/angora 90:10, recycled PSF/Protex M/Giza Cotton 60:40, Pro-modal, cotton poly injection slubs and viscose poly injection slubs.
The company’s forever white finish on cottons and anti-pilling finish on viscose were among the ones that were on high demand, with their eco-friendly range that included tencels, micro-modals, pro-modals and others with piece dyed stripes. Good buyers with names like DKNY, Express, Guess, Miss Sixty and others also visited the stall and many of the domestic brands too were keen on working with the organization.
