London’s Victoria and Albert Museum is all set to stage the largest House of Dior exhibition in the UK from 2nd February, 2019 to 14th July, 2019. The exhibition, called ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’, will include the fashion house’s journey from 1947 to the present, tracing the works and Dior’s impact on the fashion world. That apart, the event will also showcase the works of the six artistic directors who have succeeded the ace fashion designer.
The exhibit will be reforming the House of Dior event held in Paris, which attracted massive numbers of enthusiasts last year. This will be V&A’s biggest exhibition since their display, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, in 2015.
Led by curator Oriole Cullen and designer Nathalie Crinière, the V&A team will put together the exhibition which will largely revolve around the couturier’s enchantment with British culture.
Breathing life into influential Dior shows, like the first one held at the Blenheim Palace in 1954, the exhibition will be putting around 500 objects, from photography, sketches, make-up, film, illustrations and accessories to several perfumes and a plethora of clothing comprising of 200 haute couture creations for the show, with the Dior dress, worn by Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday, sharing the limelight of the show with the iconic bar suit created by Dior himself.
Dior’s personal possessions along with the creations and illustrations of the six directors, namely Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, will also be showcased at the much awaited do.
Commenting on this, Oriole Cullen, fashion and textiles curator at the V&A, said,, “More than 70 years after its founding, the V&A’s exhibition will celebrate the enduring influence of the house of Dior and uncover Dior’s relationship with Britain.”
