The Government of India has decided to organise Handloom and Handicraft Camps throughout the country in the month of October (7-17) this year.
The 10-day camps event will be organised by Ministry of Textiles under the initiative “Hastkala Sahyog Shivir” in association with various State Governments. This was announced by the Textile Ministry in a statement issued on August 28.
The camps dedicated to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Garib Kalyan Varsh, the birth centenary year of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, will cover more than 200 handloom clusters and 200 handicraft hubs across the nation.
At the camps, weavers and artisans will be offered various services, like issuance of credit facilities through MUDRA scheme; assistance for technological upgradations under Hathkargha Samvardhan Sahayata scheme; distribution of modern tools and equipment; issuance of Yarn Pass Book; enrollment under IGNOU/NIOS courses; access to Common Service Centre facilities and buyer-seller meets and expos.
The key objective behind organising these camps is to promote handloom and handicrafts products. The camps are expected to raise the sale-level of these products and thereby support the industry as a whole.
