The 3rd edition of Garment Technology Expo (GTE) at Gandhinagar (Gujarat) witnessed all big technology and machine suppliers of India. Overall the 29th edition of GTE organized from 2-4 August, also noticed reasonable footfall and visitors from Gujarat as well as from other states.
The show was decent in terms of technologies that were being showcased as it was up to the need of Ahmedabad cluster. All major players were here including dealers such as IIGM, Magnum Resources, EH Turel, HCA, ShangGong Group and technology brands such as Jack, Tukatech, Duerkopp Adler, Typical, Richpeace, Mehala, and BlueKaktus. Additionally, local agents like Ketan Enterprises and Stitchman have also shown a strong presence.
Though the majority of the visitors were SME but it was good to see about their thrust regarding the latest technology, automation. The major issue everybody was talking about here is the small-scale manufacturers who are quite cluttered in different regions of Gujarat. Most manufacturers have less than 100 machines with them and there are just a few big names such as Arvind, Zedex, Komal etc. The one positive aspect is that the technology suppliers were not looking at grabbing huge orders but are trying to find space in this gradually improving industry. Manufacturers have regular orders from buyers so investment in machines is not a problem for them. However, automation is still not something that the manufacturing industry is looking at.
A good number of visitors from the other states also like Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and especially from such cities which are not known for garmenting industry. But SMEs are trying their best to grow there.
Though, existing players in the garment industry are not able to maintain their expected growth level, despite that some of the new SMEs are also entering in the industry and they explored all kinds of technology in the show.
To make the show for serious visitors, organizers decided to organize the show in Gandhi Nagar rather than Ahmedabad and they were happy with their decision. “At Helipad Ground, serious business visitors visited the show which served the purpose. We are happy as overall visitation was as per our expectation,” concluded Ricky Sahni, JMD, GTE.
