
Organised by MINH VI Exhibition & Advertisement Services Company Limited (VEAS), Myanmar Gar-Tex Expo 2017 will be held from 29th to 31st March next year at Rose Garden Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar. The first exhibition for garment and textile industry in Myanmar, Gar-Tex Expo promises great chances for business cooperation, networking, potential market entry, as well as for exchanging useful information and innovative ideas.

The three-day fair is aimed at creating a ‘launchpad’ for the entrepreneurs who want to capitalize on the opportunities of emerging textile and garment market in Myanmar. Exhibitors are expected to come in from Germany, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Korea, Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. On display will be textile and garment equipment machinery and parts, accessories and supplies, dyestuff, fashion accessories, fabric, fibre, filament, material and more.
Myanmar’s garment sector is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, according to a report in the latest issue of Global Apparel Markets from the business information company Textiles Intelligence.
Moreover, Myanmar Government has published a strategy for the textile and garment industry as part of a document, titled National Export Strategy 2015-2019. The report exhorts the apparel industry to move from operating on a cutting, making and packaging (CMP) basis to operating on an FOB (free-on-board) basis; increase volume; improve quality; produce a greater volume of knitted products.

Currently, Myanmar has the lowest minimum wage and average pay-out when compared with key garment hubs like China, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and India, but very close in comparison to the corresponding rates in Bangladesh.
