
At the 2nd Bangladesh Circular Economy Summit in Dhaka, members of the fashion industry, organisations, and the Government gathered to share knowledge and strategies for promoting circularity in Bangladesh’s garment and textile industries.
The summit, which was held on 11th June in Dhaka by the Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) in association with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh and the German development cooperation agency GIZ, focused on the significance and strategies for shifting from a linear economic model to one that places a higher priority on resource efficiency and waste reduction.
The summit’s discussions and interactions were designed to accelerate Bangladesh’s textile and garment industries’ shift from a linear to a circular model.
The summit began with an inaugural ceremony, followed by four plenary sessions, three panel discussions, and a breakout session. Through these platforms, participants explored strategies to accelerate the adoption of circular practices within Bangladesh’s apparel and textile industries.
Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak graced the event as chief guest. Former BGMEA president Siddiqur Rahman, Thijs Woudstra, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh and Jan Janowski, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Germany in Bangladesh joined the program as the special guest
Jahangir Kabir Nanak said, “Bangladesh apparel industry has come a long way in terms of sustainability. For the development of our country, it largely depends on the apparel and textile industry.”
