Textile industry will attract investments

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has said that the textile industry occupies an important place in Turkmenistan’s economic system. The issues of development of the textile industry were discussed during the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. “The purpose of restructuring in this industry is to increase the manufacturing of competitive products and attract investments,” said the President.

This industry is represented by 74 companies – 32 textile complexes, cotton spinning and weaving factories, 17 garment factories that annually produce up to 177,000 metric tons of yarns, 186 million square meters of various cotton fabrics, 11,000 metric tons of various kinds of knitted fabrics, 7,200 metric tons of terry fabrics and 80 million pieces of knitwear and garments.

Turkmenistan has harvested more than 64 per cent, or over 676,000 metric tons of cotton to date, Turkmenpagta (Turkmen cotton) state concern informed. Approximately 2 per cent (20,500 metric tons) of the planned volume of cotton is cropped throughout the country per day. Turkmenistan allocated total area of 545,000 hectares for cotton production. Earlier, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed displeasure at a Government meeting with the speed of the agricultural work in the country. Turkmenistan started to harvest cotton in early September. It has planned to produce around 1.5 million metric tons of raw cotton.

At a Government meeting, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of cotton harvesting in the country. Cotton is a major source of revenue for the Turkmenistan’s textile industry, and it is also the raw material for many modern enterprises of the dynamically developing textile sector. In order to make sure that the regions fulfil their commitments of delivering raw cotton on time, significant organizational arrangements have been asked to be made. In the current year, country started to harvest in early September, it has planned to procure 1.5 million metric tons of raw cotton. The total area of land allocated for cotton is 545,000 hectares.

 

Tachmammet to be new Textile Minister

Tachmammet Gurbanmammedov will be appointed as the new Minister of the textile industry by the Government of Turkmenistan. Appointment of the Gurbanmammedov as the textile industry minister was discussed at a government meeting, where the President of Turkmenistan drew attention to the fact that the textile industry is one of the main sectors of the economy of the country. It is being said that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed dissatisfaction with Saparmurat Batyrov, the former minister of textile industry of Turkmenistan.  The country with the population of 5.24 million has a capacity of 177,000 tons of various yarn, 186 million square meters of various fabrics, 11,000 tons of various knitted fabrics, 7,200 of terry fabrics and 80 million pieces of knitwear and garments a year and Bershka, WalMart, JC Penney and others are among the few companies buying from Turkmenistan.
